RESEARCH PAPER FOR 'EU EXTERNAL AFFAIRS REVIEW'

High-quality papers reporting original research and innovative approaches for the EU External Relations Review are invited for submission on a continuous basis.

EU External Affairs Review is a bi-annual, academic and policy-oriented, international online refereed journal that publishes the work of scholars and policy practitioners on a broad range of issues related to European Union’s external affairs. Published by Global Europe, in collaboration with Association for International Affairs, a leading Prague-based think tank and research institute, the Review’s home page may be accessed from www.global-europe.org. Selected papers will also be published (possibly on a biennial basis) in a printed version of the Review.

EU External Affairs Review welcomes research articles from scholars, practitioners in international relations, and other experts from all around the world who are involved in various academic disciplines and with interest and expertise in the European Union’s external affairs. Postgraduate students and early-career scholars are especially encouraged to submit the results of their research work.

Papers for publication in EU External Affairs Review are selected through rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure their originality, relevance, readability, and timeliness, as well as to generally maintain the Review’s high academic standard.

Thematic Specialization

EU External Affairs Review considers all aspects and dimensions of the European Union’s relations with the rest of the world. It focuses on the political/geopolitical, security, social, economic, and legal aspects of the EU's foreign policy – hence serving as an interdisciplinary platform for new thinking and ground-breaking ideas about different issues which are of relevance to the European Union’s external relations with its international partners (any third state, international institution or non-state actor).

In particular, the topics covered by EU External Affairs Review include:

  • EU’s role in international affairs – theoretical and empirical perspectives
  • EU relations with third countries, international institutions and non-state actors
  • EU political economy and foreign trade relations
  • EU human rights and development policy
  • EU global governance
  • EU security and defense policy
  • EU decision-making within the CFSP framework

Working on the "cutting edge" of EU foreign policy-making, the EU External Affairs Review aspires to provide its readers with the latest in strategic thinking among the EU foreign policy-making elites. The Review concurrently aims to offer analysis on the EU’s global policy agenda while seeking to stimulate the much needed debate on different policy/security challenges facing Europe. To achieve these objectives, the Review is designed as a meeting-point where academics, practitioners, and other experts from different corners of the globe exchange their respective views, thus cross-fertilizing their perspectives and ideas of the EU’s role in the contemporary world.

EU External Affairs Review aspires at meeting the needs of both the academic community and the practitioners/policy-makers in international relations, as well as informed citizens and stakeholders within civil society, media, academia, business and government in that it provides a public forum, a premier ideas platform for the discussion about the present state and future development of European foreign policy interests and strategies.

Submission Guidelines

Full papers of 4000-6000 words are accepted on a continuous basis for publication in the future issues of EU External Affairs Review. The submitted papers should be strictly prepared according to guidelines of the EU External Affairs Review.

  • The papers are to be submitted in electronic form (Word or RTF file) along with a short abstract (100-150 words) and the author’s brief biography (should not exceed 100 words). Formatting should be kept to an absolute minimum. Diagrams, figures, tables, etc. are encouraged; they should not be embedded in the text but supplied in separate files, eg. emailed as attached files to the editor’s email address.
  • Papers for publication are selected through rigorous double-blind peer-review process. This is done in order to ensure their originality, relevance, readability, and timeliness and generally to maintain the Review’s high academic standard. Authors must ensure that they cannot be identified by statements in the text or by footnotes in the manuscript submitted for review. The author's name and contact details (address, email and phone) should appear at the beginning of the manuscript on a separate title page.
  • Manuscripts must conform to the Review’s formatting style – interested authors should download and read the Author’s Manual (PDF) for all details of requirements, procedures, paper mechanics, referencing style, and the technical review process for submitted papers.
